Library Rules


  1. A person desirous of using the Library shall enter his/her name, address and the time of entry legibly and put signature in the register kept at the entrance for the purpose.
  2. Library is meant for personal references and hence group discussions, combined studies are not allowed inside the library.
  3. Strict decorum and discipline must be maintained in the Library. Users must ensure that rights of other users of the library are not breached in anyway by their own acts of commission or demission.
  4. Users are not allowed to use mobile phones inside the library. If readers wish to keep them while using the library, they must be switched off.
  5. Smoking and eatables are not allowed inside the library premises.Sleeping and talking are strictly prohibited in the library.

  7. Personal belongings may be deposited at the Library property counter at your own responsibility and get a token. The item deposited can be recovered only by returning the token.
  8. Students are not permitted to take personal belongings including printed materials, folders, files and personal books inside the library.
  9. Books and journals taken out of the shelf must be left on the table. Replacing the documents on shelves by users is not encouraged as the documents may get misplaced.
  10. Readers should not mark, underline, write, or tear pages or otherwise damage the library documents.
  11. Readers are requested to handle all library property carefully to avoid damage to it and also not to disturb other readers.
  12. No Library material can be taken out of the Library without permission of the Librarian.
  13. All photocopying must comply with copyright legislation.
  14. Resources in the library cannot be copied because of copyright laws, poor condition of documents, or donor restrictions.
  15. The discretion of the Director of the Centre on any matter pertaining to Library services will be binding on the Library users.
  16. Anyone who violates the rules and regulations of the Library may be debarred from using the Library facilities or other punishments due for breach of law or forms of public order and decency.
  17. The Librarian, with the approval of the Director of the Centre, reserves the right to add, delete, or modify any of these rules as and when required.
  18. Books are issued for two weeks and they must be returned on or before the last date stamped on the date slip of each document. Sending remainders to defaulters is not obligatory on the part of the Library.
  19. The borrower should check the fitness of the document before getting it issued. Any discrepancy should be brought to the notice of the person at the Circulation Counter who will put necessary remarks on the document before issuing. The borrower will be held responsible for any defect/damage found at the time of return of the document, if not recorded on it earlier, and will be liable to pay the penalty as decided by the Director of the Centre.
  20. Any document issued, may be recalled by the Library before the due date of return without assigning any reason and the borrower has to abide by the decision.
  21. If a book is not returned within the loan period, it is the right of the director/librarian to cancel the library card for a limited period.
  22. Borrowers can get the books reissued on or before the due date by intimating the Library. Overdue books will not be reissued. Books can be reissued only two times. After that, the books must be returned.
  23. Reference books, journals/magazines/periodicals, news papers, CD-ROM databases and other documents declared “For Reference” by the Librarian will not be issued.
  24. In case of manageable damage/mutilation of the document, borrower will be liable to pay the amount as assessed by the Director of the Centre or Librarian.
  25. In case of loss or irreparable damage/mutilation of the document, the user has to either replace the document with its latest edition or pay the current price of the document plus two third of current price with admissible fine fixed by the director. In the case of foreign publications, current exchange rates of relevant foreign currencies will be applied to calculate the cost of the document.
  26. The Library membership may be cancelled at the discretion of the Director of the Centre for any inordinate/unwarranted/unscrupulous act or illegal behaviour of a member.
  27. The Director of the Centre had the right to permit outside users to refer the library on production of their photo identity card and with the recommendation of library staff. Books and journals are not issued to outside users for any purposes.



  1. Use Digital Library for academic purpose only. Keeping personal files and folders in computer is not allowed.
  2. Members must carry their ID card while using the Digital Library and must show their ID card on demand.
  3. Members should not share their net access ID and Password with other users.
  4. Changing the settings and display of the computers kept in the Digital Library is not permitted.
  5. Members must take care of their personal belongings.
  6. Strict silence should be observed in digital library.
  7. Users are not allowed to carry eatables and drinks in the Digital Library Premises.
  8. Suggestions on all aspects of library services are welcome.
