Visiting Scholar Fellowship

Inter University Centre for IPR Studies (IUCIPRS) invites eminent Teachers and Researchers who have substantially contributed to the growth of Intellectual property Law from other Universities in India or abroad, as part of the Visiting Scholars Fellowship program of the IUCIPRS.

The fellowship creates opportunity for Teachers and Researchers to associate with IUCIPRS by engaging in teaching and research in IPR related areas for a maximum period of six months. During this period the Visiting Scholar is expected to enrich the post graduate students and research scholars of the Centre by delivering lectures and engaging in formal or informal discussions. The Visiting Scholar may also undertake collaborative research with Faculty. The Visiting Scholar is required to prepare one or two papers (about 15000 words each) of publishable quality in his area of interest, which IUCIPRS may publish as occasional papers. He is also expected to act as resource person for any workshop and training programs being organized by IUCIPRS during the period of his stay.

Distinguished Scholars who have been part of the Visiting Scholar program include Marie Dagmar Mesidor and Prof. Shamnad Basheer.

1)      Marie Dagmar Mesidor, a Brazilian citizen, was with IUCIPRS as visiting fellow during January 2012 – February 2012. She has been working as an Intellectual Property Specialist at the Brazilian patent and trademark office (INPI). Before joining the INPI, Ms. Mesidor worked for a non-governmental organization in Washington, DC, USA, as a Projects Manager overseeing programs on intellectual property laws and policy issues in Latin America, particularly regarding property rights over pharmaceutical and biotechnology inventions, licensing and technology transfer, and the Brazilian innovation system. For a brief period she also worked as Consultant for Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, Division of Legal and International Affairs on various IP matters.

2)      Prof. Shamnad Basheer, the Ministry of HRD Chaired Professor in IP law at the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata from 2008, was with the IUCIPRS for three months (September to November 2012). He also taught for a year at the George Washington University Law School as the Frank H Marks Visiting Associate Professor in Intellectual property law. Now, the Founder and Managing Trustee of Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA), a charitable trust committed to fostering access to premier legal education for underprivileged children. He is also the founder and chief mentor of SpicyIP blog, one of the world’s prominent blog and resource on intellectual property rights.

Visiting Scholars invited by the IUCIPRS will be paid an honorarium @ Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees fifty thousand only) per month and living expenses of Rs 10,000 (Rupees ten thousand only) per month. Scholars who are interested may get in touch with the Director.
